World Aids Day; Sex in the City, Bastille

Spent part of the day with a group of ‘militant(es)s’ –  activist friends from one of the big French universities today who were running a stall to raise  AIDS awareness among students. Attitudes toward sex as topic seemed to be generally open. Free contraceptives were being scooped up at quite a fast pace – with one impressive young lady scopping up  a little suitcase of condoms, possibly for further re-distribution or s capital for a small supermarket.

An estimated 150,000 people live with AIDS  in France according to the most recent stats.  The prevalence rate is at 0.35 – with  France’s male gay population being 59 times more likely to be infected than the rest of society.

An exhibition on human sexuality – open to the public – is in its last few days  at the Place Bastille.  Look forward to checking it out over the weekend! ( It  runs through to the 4th of December)
