For reasons that will go un-written here, this artist occupies a very special place in my cardiovascular network of vessels and muscles. His music found me at a very complicated crossroads in my mid twenties (during my quarter life crisis as he would call it). And as I begin to knock on 30, I am reasonably functional in part due to several small shots of sanity taken from his repertoire of unconventional music. So, it was a surreal, overwhelming moment going to see him perform live on the 25th of October. The video was taken on my mobile phone, and as such, he appears here as a blurry, distant figure strumming a guitar. The poor quality of the video aside – the experience of capturing Jay Brannan – and the effortless beauty of his work was nothing short of delicious. An absolutely delectable experience. His music is available on itunes. For a link to his itunes page click here.
Returned from a beautiful night out where the highlight was a Brooke Fraser concert at Nouveau Casino in the 11eme. The song here is perhaps my favourite from her new album “Flags”. Entitled “Sailboats”, it’s an intimate, haunting, eerie, gorgeous piece of art….Superb.
